We were asked to enhance the promotional display of the i-Site Centre in Taupo Quay, Wanganui, and in particular come up with promotional display ideas to incorporate Department of Conservation into the space.
From our brainstorming in-house and with our clients we collectively came up with a small range of promotional display ideas that were interactive and fun to use whilst telling the story of the Whanganui River.
The final installation design included a mural painted by senior designer, Des Bovey, interpreting the legend of the Whanganui River as told by local iwi. The other display ideas included; large scale jigsaw puzzles set into box cubes, each with a hand painted New Zealand native animal, these are used as fun educational displays for visiting children; another favourite display is the DoC rangers, which were also hand drawn and are life size with cut out faces which are used by visitors for photo fun outside the Wanganui i-Site Centre with the Whanganui River as the backdrop.
One of the key elements of the brief was to highlight to visitors the activities they can do in the DoC managed Whanganui National Park. We achieved this with the design of large banners depicting mountain biking, hiking and canoeing.
